About Us
The Academy
The Andreeva Portrait Academy (APA) is a private painting atelier which began in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 2009, APA relocated its campus to historic Salado, Texas, north of Austin APA offers workshops that range in length from all Saturday courses to three day classes. These special teachers share their knowledge of painting portraits, still life and landscapes to students of all skill levels. Workshops at Andreeva Portrait Academy are both instructional and life enriching.
Our Instructors
From the earliest times, artists have been depicting the human form and spirit in styles ranging from the archaic and spiritually provocative to classically sublime. APA students study classical techniques developed during the Renaissance and passed down by great artists to their students throughout the centuries. APA instructors are recognized as masters in the field of figurative, still life and landscape painting. Many of our faculty studied with earlier generation master portraitists. APA teachers are well equipped to teach the secrets of these ancient techniques. Learning to see the anatomically geometric design of the form, understanding the play of light across the form and using color to enhance the beauty inherent in every face will further enhance the ability of each of our workshop participants to be the next line of artists to carry on the traditional style.
Our Classes
We provide easels, chairs, stools, small individual tables, and odorless mineral spirits. Students may leave their supplies in the classroom for the entire duration of their chosen workshop. Our studio does not close for the duration of the workshop. Students are given a key to the studio to use 24 hours a day. Andreeva Academy also offers coffee and a small selection of snacks daily.
